Semenyo was one of City's best signings under Pep Guardiola, with the Ghana international working with the Catalan in the latter's final six months at the Etihad Stadium after joining from Bournemouth for £65 million in January.
Just days after arriving to the Etihad Stadium, Semenyo started justifying the investment made to secure his arrival from the south coast as he led Manchester City's resurgence and subsequent push against Arsenal for the 2025/26 Premier League.
Adaptation for a season was a common hallmark for Guardiola's signings at City but Semenyo more than defied that norm by starting to perform and providing end-product from day one.
The 26-year-old picked up under new Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca right where he left off under Guardiola, impression in east Asia in pre-season and carrying that early form to the opening months of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
Every goal I've written down so far has manifested: Semenyo
One of the first names on the City teamsheet under Maresca, Semenyo has forged a devastating attacking partnership with Erling Haaland in attack as the Blues navigate their first season beyond Guardiola in the backdrop of a comprehensive squad remake in the summer.
In addition to preparing on the pitch and in the gym, the London-born attacker has now revealed he journals regularly to manifest his desired outcomes come matchday.
“I did it as a kid a lot. I wrote a lot of random stuff and as I’ve got older I’ve focused on what I’ve done during the day," said Semenyo in conversation with official Manchester City media last week.
“A lot of the time I was overthinking so it became a habit. I manifest what I want for the season, for the years ahead and it’s worked out well so far.
“I don’t really remember why I started. My mum got me a big book that was meant to be for homework but it became for random stuff. Some of the things in there can be random, just like notes but a lot of it is what I want to achieve.
“Every goal that I’ve written down so far has manifested. When anything pops up, I write it down and come back to it to see it at a later stage.”
What is next for Semenyo and Man City?
Having already scored twice and provided three assists in 10 outings in all competitions for City this term, Semenyo has been a regular feature in Maresca's lineup but came under fire for his profligacy in front of goal in his side's 4-2 UEFA Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain last week.
Maresca admitted in the days leading to City's 3-2 weekend win over Ipswich Town that several of his players who'd been playing 90 minutes for club and country were due a rest as he looked to avoid burnout by giving his most important players a day off.
The Manchester City manager proceeded to make six changes to his starting XI against the Tractor Boys on Saturday as a brace from Erling Haaland and a much-needed goal for the returning Phil Foden helped the Blues avoid a late scare.
With a record seven wins in the Premier League to start the season, Maresca and co have momentum on their side as they look to go strength from strength and build on their eye-catching start to the campaign, starting with AEK Athens in the UEFA Champions League at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
