Grizzlies and Bucks make tough roster decisions regarding their guards

The Memphis Grizzlies and Milwaukee Bucks have had to make tough roster decisions ahead of the season in order to fit into the 15 standard contract restriction ahead of the season start.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Grizzlies have waived No. 18 pick of the 2025 NBA Draft, Walter Clayton Jr. and Micah Peavy. The Bucks have also waived Kevin Porter Jr., via Charania.

The Grizzlies had made Clayton Jr. available for trades before the deadline, but failed to find an agreement, despite the Sacramento Kings being interested in him.

Clayton Jr. has had a tough start to his NBA career. He was drafted by the Washington Wizards and was then traded to the Utah Jazz on draft night.

After half a season with Utah, he was moved to the Grizzlies in the Jaren Jackson Jr. trade.

In his first NBA season, he averaged 7.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists, playing 20.4 minutes a night across 69 games.

The Bucks had been exploring trades involving Kevin Porter Jr. ahead of the roster cut deadline, but had to waive him after failed attempts to find him a new team.

Porter Jr., 26, had a much larger role for the Bucks last season, putting up 17.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 7.4 assists in 38 appearances before a knee injury ended his campaign.
