The Valkyries took Game 1 against the Dream in a close one, pulling off an 68-64 win. They hold a 1-o lead in the best-of-seven series. Following Game 2, the series will shift to the Dreamās home court for Games 3 and 4.
This isnāt the first time that Warriors players have been on hand to show support for the Valkyries. Brandin Podziemski is a regular at Chase Center for WNBA season sitting courtside, especially during the teamās inaugural season last year. For Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Yaxel Lendeborg, Moses Moody, Will Richard and even head coach Steve Kerr were in attendance.
And Curry recently warmed up during a Warriors preseason game wearing Valkyriesā guard Veronica Burtonās jersey.
The Valkyries are also owned by Joe Lacob, the Warriors owner and architect of the franchiseās four NBA championships in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022. The Valkyries are seeking their first championship in franchise history, in only their second year of existence.
They were an expansion team last season under head coach Natalie Nakase, and made the playoffs as the No. 8 seed in the WNBA standings. This year, the Valkyries finished with the No. 2 seed and dispatched the defending champion Las Vegas Aces in a sweep to reach the Finals.
