Mikel Arteta to make four Arsenal changes vs Bayern as £34m star returns

Arsenal take on Bayern Munich in Wednesday’s Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena.

The Gunners secured a third straight win after a slender 1-0 Premier League victory at Nottingham Forest.

They were far from their best at the City Ground, but prevailed after Noni Madueke’s deflected goal.

Mikel Arteta’s side will now shift their focus to tomorrow’s European game at Bayern.

Ahead of the clash, Arteta could make up to four changes to the starting XI.

The first change could come at right-back.

Jurrien Timber, signed for £34 million from Ajax, started the Champions League win over Lille last weekend and made his mark with the opening goal.

Ben White was reinstated against Forest to manage Timber’s workload. The latter came off the bench and should definitely make the starting XI in Munich.

Similarly, Riccardo Calafiori could make way for Myles Lewis-Skelly at left-back. Calafiori has had a fantastic start to the season with four goal contributions in all competitions.

The Italian ace has picked up several niggles in the past at Arsenal, and Arteta may seek to handle him with caution. He could come off the bench if required.

Lewis-Skelly was an unused substitute on Sunday and appears poised to replace Calafiori.

In the final third, Arteta has an easy decision to make over who will start on the left wing.

Eberechi Eze got the nod over Madueke in the starting XI at the weekend, but he was non-existent before his compatriot replaced him at the half-time break.

Madueke made the difference with the winning goal late on. It should be a no-brainer decision to start him at Bayern. He also scored against them last season.

The final change could happen upfront. Kai Havertz barely impressed as the main striker at Forest and was replaced by Viktor Gyokeres after the hour mark.

The Swede did not make a big impact either, but he could still start versus Bayern, having made the first XI in the last two European games against Napoli and Lille.

Gyokeres has yet to start in the Premier League this term, but has got the nod in the Cup competitions ahead of Havertz. That could continue against the German champions.
