Plenty of Everton fans are feeling a bit frustrated right now, and the success Brighton are having makes that understandable.

Everton lost in the Premier League to Chelsea on Saturday, with Pedro Neto’s double at Hill Dickinson Stadium meaning the unbeaten run is now over.

So it’s 10 points taken from seven games for Everton. The club currently sit eighth in the table, but with the league being very tight, the Toffees could slip into the bottom half with a very tough game against Arsenal just around the corner.

The nature of the defeat against Chelsea has got a lot of fans talking. It was an uninspiring performance, with Everton barely laying a glove on the Blues.

There was no real ambition in the performance, and that rather reflects the ownership of the club and also arguably Moyes himself.

Some Everton fans are disgruntled – and the success that Brighton are currently having absolutely validates those feelings.

It does seem like the perfect next step, and could see him doing really really well

Hopefully it won’t take too long for a sale to happen!

Everton fans can demand more given what Brighton are doing

It is not uncommon for Everton fans to be told to be grateful about staying in the Premier League, and having a manager like David Moyes to take away the fear of relegation.

There’s no doubt he’s done a solid job in his second spell at the club. But for a while now it’s felt like, while he raises the floor, he also caps the ceiling.

He made several decisions against Chelsea to suggest he was fearful of them. The decision to start Merlin Rohl to combat their left-back Pep Chavarria, who didn’t end up playing. The move to put defensive midfielder Christian Norgaard on rather than Hayden Hackney.

It felt like the manager had the handbrake on, and it has also felt like the owners have had the handbrake on pretty much since they came in.

Everton are safe and stable under the current set-up. But Everton fans can certainly be forgiven for wanting a lot more than that, especially seeing what Brighton in particular are doing right now.

The Seagulls currently sit third in the Premier League table, having won four of their last five games, which featured a 3-0 scalp of reigning champions Arsenal at the Amex Stadium. They are the league’s top scorers, having plundered a remarkable 23 so far.

And they are doing this while playing in the Europa Conference League, which was their reward for being great again last season.

Their success has been made possible by making good hires in the right areas, especially recruitment. They have built a squad that is brimming with talented players who fit in with what they are trying to do, with an innovative young manager at the helm.

While they haven’t yet won a trophy, they’re putting themselves in a position to contend, and it rather renders what Everton and Moyes are doing underwhelming.

Everton fans can’t be gaslit into believing that just existing in the Premier League is success, when you’ve got Brighton pushing on and being ambitious in the way that they are.
