FORMER Colchester United players David Prutton and Luke Chambers will be involved in a nationwide competition offering one grassroots football team a professional-style matchday experience.

Prutton and Chambers will form part of the Sky Sports team covering the Jameson x EFL Ultimate Matchday, alongside fellow former EFL player Jobi McAnuff.

The trio will provide live reaction to the key moments from the winning team’s match and speak to the standout performers afterwards.

Prutton spent time with the U's in the 2009/10 season while Chambers had two years at Colchester, between 2021 and 2023.

The competition has returned following its debut last season and will again feature former midfielder Steve Sidwell, who played for inaugural winners Mercia United in November 2025.

Sidwell will this time be joined by former Ipswich Town and Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy, who will return to the dugout for the one-off occasion.

The winning grassroots side will receive new PUMA kits and have their home pitch transformed with Jameson branding, including corner flags, ball plinths and interview boards.

EFL match officials will also take charge of the game as part of an attempt to recreate the feel of a professional fixture.

The winners will additionally receive access to their local EFL club’s training ground, giving players the opportunity to experience a professional training environment, as well as a year’s supply of Jameson Ginger & Lime cans for the squad.

Sidwell said: “I absolutely loved playing alongside the Mercia United lads last year, but I’ve always hated losing, so of course I had to come back again to make amends.

“Bringing Mick on board too, I’m hoping that he can work his magic to make sure we get the win this time around.”

Two runner-up teams will receive PUMA strips, replica EFL match balls and Jameson Ginger & Lime cans.

Entries are now open, with the winners due to be announced on Monday, November 9 - you can enter here

The successful club must be available over the weekend of December 5 and 6, with no limit on the number of entries that can be submitted per club.
