Premier League transfer net spend table for 26/27 season: £200m Liverpool above Spurs

We all know Man City and Chelsea spent all the money (they are the biggest spenders across Europe this summer) but where do they stand on the net spend Premier League table?

All figures are from transfermarkt. Here’s the five-year net spend table (topped by Tottenham now!)

1) Liverpool 26/27 net spend: £-200.22m

Transfers in: £226.95m

Transfers out: £26.73m

No money recouped for Mo Salah, Andy Robertson or Ibrahima Konate is galling, with only Curtis Jones leaving for relative peanuts. Bradley Barcola arrived for a big old fee late in the window after earlier, less expensive moves for Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz.

2) Tottenham 26/27 net spend: £-173.34m

Transfers in: £314.22m

Transfers out: £140.88m

Yes, there has been considerable money spent (and some massive overpays) on some belt-and-braces Premier League signings, but they have also broken a world record with the hefty fee they demanded for Luka Vuskovic. And Cristian Romero and Djed Spence have added to the pot, making them one of the Premier League’s best sellers this summer. And then came Savinho for a barely believable £75m.

3) Ipswich Town 26/27 net spend: £-172.65m

Transfers in: £189.25m

Transfers out: £16.57m

Ipswich will certainly have seen Sunderland’s successful 25/26 season and thought it was worth the investment, especially with parachute payments in play from their last (failed) attempt.

4) Manchester City 26/27 net spend: £-162.26m

Transfers in: £451.33m

Transfers out: £288.8m

So very many first-team players left including Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Omar Marmoush, Savio, Tijjani Reijnders and Nico Gonzalez, but they have spent £100m-plus on both Elliot Anderson and Enzo Fernandez and brought in two new wingers. It’s a massive risk.

5) Hull City 26/27 net spend: £-133.28m

Transfers in: £150.66m

Transfers out: £17.39m

Promoted way too early but they have spent decent money on young players and have a chance after a brilliant start to the season.

6) Coventry City 26/27 net spend: £-123m

Transfers in: £127.1m

Transfers out: £4.41m

There is no parachute payment at play here so that’s quite the investment from Coventry. Especially when most of the big-money signings are young and unproven.

7) Manchester United 26/27 net spend: £-100.82m

Transfers in: £148.3m

Transfers out: £47.67m

Obviously money was lost on Rasmus Hojlund but they still banked a half-decent fee that paid for Youri Tielemans with change left over. Not getting fees for Manuel Ugarte or Marcus Rashford this summer may prevent further extensive spending, but Carlos Baleba comes in for £65m. No left-back arrived.

8) Brentford 26/27 net spend: £-95.5m

Transfers in: £106.49m

Transfers out: £11m

After the summer of 2025 when they made a transfer profit as their manager and three key players left, this was a summer of consolidation for the Bees. They broke their own incoming transfer record for Mamadou Sangare.

9) Arsenal 26/27 net spend: £-78.91m

Transfers in: £194.27m

Transfers out: £115.88m

Signing Bruno Guimaraes for £75m and then Ezri Konsa for £51m has taken their spending close to £200m. But for once they recouped a fair whack from selling Gabriel Martinelli, finally breaking their record sale mark.

10) Fulham 26/27 net spend: £-70.25m

Transfers in: £87.83m

Transfers out: £17.49m

It feels right to see Fulham in mid-table. A handful of players left and a handful of players came in but it’s still down to Alvaro Arbeloa to follow Marco Silva. A big ask.

11) Bournemouth 26/27 net spend: £-57.81m

Transfers in: £69.3m

Transfers out: £11.49m

They made the biggest transfer profit of 2025/26 but they will not want a repeat. Being mid-table in terms of net spend will suit them just fine going into their first season in Europe.

12) Leeds United 26/27 net spend: £-54.6m

Transfers in: £85.51m

Transfers out: £30.04m

A change at centre-half and a massive upgrade between the sticks, but we were never expecting a load more business from Leeds in a summer of consolidation. The free transfer signing of Harry Wilson is a big incoming that does not register on these numbers.

13) Sunderland 26/27 net spend: £-37.74m

Transfers in: £65.83m

Transfers out: £28.03m

Very, very slight spending after last summer’s splurge, though getting Malick Fofana through the door on deadline day was a win.

14) Newcastle United 26/27 net spend: £-29.08m

Transfers in: £268.46m

Transfers out: £239.39m

Now that’s what you call churn. Could it work out for the best? Newcastle are bringing in numbers to replace those very lucrative exits, with Nico Gonzalez the latest.

15) Brighton 26/27 net spend: £10.36m

Transfers in: £154.45m

Transfers out: £164.81m

Well over £100m has been spent but more has been recouped by the sale of Carlos Baleba, Jan Paul van Hecke and Carl Rushworth. Just Brighton doing Brighton things.

16) Nottingham Forest 26/27 net spend: £19.3m

Transfers in: £118.54m

Transfers out: £137.83m

Forest pretty much spent their Elliot Anderson money on four signings, though they undoubtedly paid a premium for Liam Delap.

17) Everton 26/27 net spend: £21.19m

Transfers in: £89.42m

Transfers out: £110.6m

Ouch. This was never supposed to be a transfer profit kind of summer, but they could not have predicted Folarin Balogun changing his mind about a transfer after they had already sold Iliman Ndiaye to Manchester City. They look short.

18) Chelsea 26/27 net spend: £35.25m

Transfers in: £348.09m

Transfers out: £384.08m

There has been an awful lot of money spent (on Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix and a coterie or children and old men) but making a profit on Andrey Santos, Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Fernandez and Liam Delap among others somehow makes this a profitable window. The collapse of a move for Lamine Camara was a blow.

19) Crystal Palace 26/27 net spend: £37.72m

Transfers in: £73.16m

Transfers out: £110.88m

It feels like a summer done on the cheap, which might damn Pierre Sage.

20) Aston Villa 26/27 net spend: £55.81m

Transfers in: £257.48m

Transfers out: £313.29m

The sales of Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Ezri Konsa and assorted others left them very short on the opening day but the signings of Ibrahim Mbaye among others makes this a rather more palatable as well as profitable window.
