Man City are seen as the “leading contenders” to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Mathis Albert, according to reports.
TEAMtalk claim that Enzo Maresca’s side tried to recruit the 17-year-old during the summer transfer window when they were prepared to pay upwards of €20m (£17m) for him.

Dortmund refused to sell Albert at the time, but the player’s contract does run out at the end of the season.
The teenager’s limited game time means he is unlikely to put pen to paper on an extension, which suggests he could be willing to leave Germany next year.
What do Man City fans need to know about the player?
Albert was born in South Carolina in the United States, and he had spells at three different academies (Carolina Elite Soccer, San Diego Surf and LA Galaxy) before he signed for Dortmund in the summer of 2024.
The forward made appearances for Borussia Dortmund’s second string in the German regional leagues last season, and he did enough to earn himself his first-team debut against Freiburg back in April.
Head coach Niko Kovac has given Albert two further appearances this season, against HEBC Hamburg (in the German Cup) and Union Berlin (in the Bundesliga). USA boss Mauricio Pochettino also handed him his first senior caps during the last international break, scoring his first goal in his second game against Chile.

Other teams have shown interest in Albert
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have also considered signing the winger, but it is believed that City are the team likeliest to snap him up if a couple of major hurdles can be negotiated.
The first is pretty obvious. If City’s appeal against breaches of Premier League FFP regulations fails, then Albert may not want to make the switch to the Etihad.
Another factor is the American’s age. UK visa rules mean that City can’t sign foreign players below the age of 18, so any official approach for Albert would have to wait until his birthday in late May.
