Enzo Maresca's side suffered their first defeat of the 2026/27 season against PSG at the Etihad Stadium last Wednesday, conceding three goals in the first-half before Erling Haaland scored twice after the break.
City responded with a 3-2 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday, with Phil Foden scoring his first goal in 307 days and Haaland adding a brace. Zian Flemming scored a late penalty for the visitors.
The result left Manchester City top of the Premier League, three points clear of Arsenal, with Maresca becoming the first manager in the competition's history to win his first seven games in charge. The club remain unbeaten in the league this season.
The fixture comes against the backdrop of the independent commission's guilty verdict, published on 29 September, which found the club guilty on 114 of 115 charges. City lodged a comprehensive appeal on 1 October.
Haaland appeared uncomfortable in the closing stages against Ipswich, and Maresca said on Monday that the striker "can be available [vs AEK Athens], we'll see".
The Norway international was among five players missing from Manchester City's open training session on Monday, alongside Matheus Nunes, Nico O'Reilly, Mateo Kovacic and Antoine Semenyo.
Semenyo has been ruled out for around eight weeks with an injury sustained against Ipswich, with a return expected around December. Maresca said after the scan: "we feel much better because it's not so big like we expected."
AEK Athens, the Greek champions, have never played Manchester City before and have lost only one of their last 21 matches, a 3-2 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk last week, and are unbeaten in the league this season. Goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha is out with a wrist injury, but AEK have a full squad otherwise.
Manchester City have rotated significantly to keep up with their busy schedule as the Blues look to build on their weekend win over Ipswich and go on another run of victories.
