FC Barcelona have been very active in the transfer market in recent seasons, placing considerable emphasis on signing talented youngsters with first-team potential.
In recent times, the club have signed the likes of Hamza Abdelkarim and Jesse Bisiwu, and the duo have already looked like excellent acquisitions based on a limited sample size.
The club could now face serious competition from Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of Arthur Dias. Having already seen a bid rejected, Spurs are prepared to return for him.
According to [SPORT](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/tottenham-amenaza-planes-barca-reforzar-135544563), Tottenham are considering a renewed approach for the 19-year-old Athletico Paranaense centre-back ahead of the January transfer window.
Tottenham previously attempted to sign Dias during the summer, offering approximately €21 million for 80% of his rights.
However, Athletico Paranaense rejected the proposal and are now demanding around €30 million for the defender.
The Brazilian club’s valuation reflects Dias’ growing reputation, particularly after receiving a call-up to the Brazil national team from Carlo Ancelotti.
Barcelona have monitored the youngster for several months, identifying him as a potential long-term defensive option.
His left-footed profile, 1.88m height and ability to play out from the back make him an attractive candidate for the Catalan club.
Dias can also operate at left-back, offering versatility that could prove valuable in Hansi Flick’s system. Barcelona view him as a possible future partner for Pau Cubarsi in central defence.
However, Tottenham are not the only English club interested. Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Brentford have also been linked with the defender.
He is under contract until 2028, and the Brazilian club will have to make a decision on his future sooner rather than later.
Dias fits into Barcelona’s recent recruitment strategy under Deco and Joao Amaral and has the potential to develop into an important first-team player.
A left-footed centre-back comfortable in possession would provide useful balance alongside Cubarsi. Flick has shown his preference for such a profile through his trust in Gerard Martin.
However, €30 million represents a significant investment for a teenager who still needs time to develop. Barcelona cannot afford to overpay without any guarantee of consistent performances.
Tottenham seem much more determined to sign him and could flex their financial muscles to blow Barcelona out of the water.
Barcelona should remain interested and keep themselves on the periphery of the transfer while monitoring how it develops.
The club should only move for the teenager if the conditions are favourable, and it remains to be seen how things pan out.
