AEK Athens display massive for my confidence, says Lewis
Rico Lewis was overjoyed after contributing two assists in Tuesday night's 5-1 UEFA Champions League victory over AEK Athens.
The versatile full-back set up two of Foden’s three goals, whilst Elliot Anderson and Rayan Cherki also got on the scoresheet in a clinical display from Enzo Maresca’s side at the Etihad Stadium.
The 21-year-old has made four appearances across all competitions this season and believes his confidence will receive a massive boost after playing the entire 90 minutes on Tuesday evening against the Greek side.
“It’s massive. For me obviously I’ve not had much time on the pitch,” he began in an interview after the game. “When you get thrown into a game, you kind of get worked up about doing well, but I just thought to play my game and everything will come after.
“It’s massive for my confidence. I’m just looking forward to more games.
“It helps when you’re two or three goals up, because you can relax and almost wish you can play with that confidence from the start of the game.
“When you get that success you get more comfortable. That just comes with the result of the game.”

The Academy graduate also provided an insight into the first few months under the stewardship of new boss Maresca.
“I obviously knew him from when he was here for the Treble season,” he continued. “Everything is clear.
“Everyone knows the idea and when everyone knows the idea and is on board, it makes it 100 times easier.
“Even if we make the mistakes, we’re all going in the same direction and we’re all trying to do the right things.
“Everything is going smoothly right now.”
