With a little over two months to go until the end of 2026, it won’t be long until the transfer window re-opens, and Liverpool can start thinking about making more additions.

It has been a steady start under Andoni Iraola, albeit with some obvious areas for improvement still sticking out to a lot of supporters and pundits.

And with Julian Ward returning as sporting director following the departure of Richard Hughes, he could be kept busy, with the latest reports suggesting that there could be some business done during the January window, and two players in particular catching the eye of the Reds.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Lamine Camara and Alex Scott (Monaco and Bournemouth)

Liverpool is “following” Lamine Camara and “some calls” have been made regarding Alex Scott, according to Fabrizio Romano, with the Reds planning to “do something important in midfield in 2027.”

Chelsea looks to have ruled itself out of the running for Camara now, despite coming so close to signing the Monaco midfielder during the summer. The decision from the French club to pull the plug on the deal is said to have left the Blues “furious”, with the Stamford Bridge club having now “disappeared” from the chase for the 22-year-old.

Scott was also linked with Chelsea, and the Blues are said to be still interested in the Bournemouth star, but Liverpool is claimed to have made contact. What’s more, midfield is “100 percent” a target for the Reds in 2027, and it’s suggested the club will make a move in January if the right opportunity arises.

Liverpool.com says: It will be interesting to see whether it becomes an 'either or' situation with Camara and Scott, who are the two midfielders being linked the most with Liverpool right now. Certainly, you would like to see both move to Anfield, although how likely that would be is debatable.

Midfield does look like the next area to target, but there are still other questions across the rest of the squad that need answering, especially when it comes to the right wing, right-back, and center-back, especially if this proves to be Virgil van Dijk's final year at Anfield.

Finn Jeltsch (Stuttgart)

Liverpool is willing to pay $56 million (€50M) for Stuttgart defender Finn Jeltsch, according to Spanish outlet Sport, although the Reds aren’t the only ones interested.

Jeltsch’s reputation has grown a lot over the past year or so, with the center-back having earned himself a call-up to Jurgen Klopp’s first Germany squad during the international break.

It’s now claimed that some of Europe’s top clubs are following the 20-year-old, with Liverpool among those. It’s suggested that the Reds have already indicated how much they’d be willing to pay, but with Real Madrid and Barcelona also said to be in the running, there will be plenty of competition.

Liverpool.com says: A new center-back certainly has to be looked at soon. Even with Jeremy Jacquet, Giovanni Leoni and Ifeanyi Ndukwe on board, it likely won’t be long until Van Dijk and Joe Gomez are on their way out.

Jeltsch makes a lot of sense as a potential target. At 20, he follows the same sort of plan Liverpool has had for previous defenders, and if he’s catching the eye of Klopp, then that can only be a positive. At this stage, it doesn’t feel like there much more to it than just speculation, but he’s certainly a player to keep an eye on.
