Leeds United to battle Everton for deadly Champions League striker as Newcastle plot bold free…

The latest Premier League transfer news with stories involving Arsenal, Newcastle United, Everton, Leeds and more

Gameweek 7 of the Premier League did not disappoint, with a number of stunning goals, dramatic moments and VAR controversy over the course of an action-packed three days of top tier football. Manchester City, Arsenal, Brighton and Chelsea were among the sides to seal important wins, while Man United had to settle for a draw away to rivals Leeds.

Meanwhile, we’re little over a couple of months away from the January transfer window, and club recruiters are working at pace to get their plans finalised ahead of the new year. Arsenal still want a left winger, Chelsea are after an Enzo Fernandez replacement - ideally Alex Scott - and Everton are in dire need of a striker, with Thierno Barry their only real option up top.

Today’s rumours round-up starts at the Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal are gearing up for a blockbuster Champions League clash away to Bayern Munich. According to Football Insider, Gunners left-back Riccardo Calafiori continues to garner admiring glances from Real Madrid, which is likely to see Arsenal set a mega asking price to fend offer their interest.

The report suggests that Arsenal would require a fee in the region of £84m to consider selling the Italy international, with the player viewed as a “central part of Mikel Arteta’s project” at the club. There’s no suggestion of when Real Madrid could look to make an offer, or whether the player is interested in a move to the Bernabeu.

The 3AM Verdict: Calafiori’s contract doesn’t run out until 2029, so Arsenal are in a very comfortable position at the moment. They’ve got a serious talent on their hands who can play in multiple positions, and he now looks to be a real bargain too with the Gunners spending £42m to sign him back in 2024. Real can look all they want - Arsenal won’t be selling any time soon.

Newcastle plot bargain Tomori transfer

Meanwhile, Newcastle United are said to be lining up a move for AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, who is struggling for regular game time at the San Siro. The ex-Chelsea defender was in Thomas Tuchel’s final England squad before last summer’s World Cup, but has fallen out of favour at Milan, and looks set to leave the Serie A side once his contract expires this summer.

Football Insider say Tomori is “firmly” on the Magpies’ radar, as they look to sign a top quality defender without having to spend a penny to do so. Milan boss Ruben Amorim only used the 28-year-old twice this season, with his two appearances coming recently with a solid 67 minute stint against RB Leipzig and a six minute cameo against Atalanta last weekend.

The 3AM Verdict: Tomori’s form was pretty poor towards the end of last season for Milan, and the club clearly look like they’re done with the player going by how this season has started. A clean break for Tomori looks to be for the best, and he could reignite his career with a Newcastle side who could do with some more options in central defence.

Leeds United among sides chasing hat-trick hero

Our final story takes us to Belgium, where Club Brugge star Nicolo Tresoldi is continuing to turn heads with his excellent displays - including scoring a hat-trick in his side’s 4-3 away win to Inter last week. Leeds United are now in a race with Newcastle and Everton to sign the 22-year-old gem, according to reports in the Belgian press, via Sport Witness.

All three clubs are thought to be sending scouts to see Tresoldi play against Lens in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, but could face “elite” competition for his services from the likes of Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid. As things stand, there’s no indication of how much Club Brugge would demand to sell their top asset.

The 3AM Verdict: Out of the three Premier League clubs listed, Everton should be pushing hardest to get the deal done. They can’t rely on a misfiring Barry to bag them a season’s worth of goals, and Tresoldi would provide excellent competition for the starting striker’s spot - if his club are willing to sell him in January for a sensible fee, which could be unlikely.
