Chelsea are already looking towards January as they consider whether to add another midfielder to Xabi Alonso’s squad.
The Blues were unable to land their preferred option before the summer deadline after selling Enzo Fernández to Man City, and that left them short of an established creative presence alongside Moisés Caicedo, despite the promise of their younger options.

Several names have since been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Monaco’s Lamine Camara, Roma’s Manu Kone and Fulham’s Sander Berge were all reportedly considered during the summer, while Frenkie de Jong has emerged in more recent speculation.
Alex Scott, however, appears to remain the player Chelsea admire most.

The Bournemouth midfielder was the subject of serious interest during the last window, but the Cherries refused to consider losing another important player.

Their position now looks less rigid, giving Chelsea fresh hope ahead of January, but even though it gives the Blues a genuine opening, the cost will test their appetite.
Chelsea handed Alex Scott boost as Fabrizio Romano confirms agent talks

Fabrizio Romano has explained that a winter deal could be possible if Bournemouth receive an offer they consider too good to reject.
He also says that Chelsea have held 'several' rounds of talks with Scott's entourage.
“A January move for the Bournemouth midfielder is possible, as I told you, especially if a big proposal arrives.
“Let me clarify one thing. Bournemouth are not putting Alex Scott on the market. It is not that Bournemouth are saying they want to sell Alex Scott.
"Obviously, he is a fantastic player and an England international. So, they are now opening the door, which is different. In the summer, the door was closed. Now, the door is open.
“Chelsea are there, for sure. Chelsea are very interested in the player. Chelsea have had several contacts with his agents.
"Chelsea considered Alex Scott their top target in midfield over the summer, and it was not possible to proceed, but Chelsea loved the player. So, Chelsea are still there.”
Reports suggest the south coast club value him at an enormous figure.
Sky Sports says an offer worth more than £80 million with add-ons would have to be taken seriously, while The Times has put the asking price closer to £100 million.
Scott, who has been called an 'incredibly underrated' star by members of the media, would make sense for Chelsea’s long-term model.
He is young, already proven in the Premier League and comfortable carrying the ball through pressure. He can operate as a number eight, play higher up the pitch and give Alonso more energy between both boxes.

There is also a belief that his best years remain ahead of him.
Chelsea have repeatedly invested in players with room to develop, but Scott would arrive with far more top-flight experience than many of their recent young additions.
A January transfer would still be difficult, and Bournemouth’s league position could influence their decision, while Liverpool also retain an interest in the midfielder.
