Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has named Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai as the best free-kick taker in the world.

In an interview withTNT Sports, where he was asked questions by famous people, Brazil legend Roberto Carlos wanted him to rate the best set-piece specialist, and Rice replied:

“I’m probably going to have to say, from what I’ve seen, [Dominik] Szoboszlai from Liverpool.”

“The free-kicks he’s scored are unbelievable; the way he strikes the ball is unbelievable, his consistency as well.”

Rice saw first-hand what Szoboszlai can do last season

Liverpool beat Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield at the beginning of the 2025/26 campaign, with the Hungarian international scoring a spectacular free-kick to clinch all three points in the dying moments of the match.

That goal was no doubt imprinted in Rice’s memory. Of course, Szoboszlai has scored several other goals from set pieces since then.

When will Liverpool have their No. 8 back in action?

It appears as if the Reds will be without Szoboszlai for a while. He sustained a hamstring injury during the international break and missed the fixtures against Manchester City and LASK to give him time to recover.

However, on his return against Brentford last weekend, he lasted just 32 minutes before he was forced off the pitch. Head coach Andoni Iraola admitted after the match that the midfielder was brought back too soon.

It will now be up to the medical team to determine how extensive Szoboszlai’s rehabilitation will need to be. As things stand, it would be a surprise to see him return to action before the next international break.

Even a minor hamstring tear can take a few weeks to recover from, and after suffering a recurrence, the club will have to be extra careful before putting him back in the fray.
