Arsenal face Bayern Munich again, this time in Bavaria, where they have won only once in seven visits. That win came in March 2013, when Arsenal beat Bayern 2-0 with Mikel Arteta wearing the armband. A 3-1 defeat in the first leg resulted in Bayern going through on away goals. Thirteen years on, Arteta will try to manage his team to the same result, but as the man in the dugout.

15 February 2017 Round of 16 Bayern 5-1 Arsenal
17 April 2024 Quarter-Final Bayern 1-0 Arsenal
The 3-1 win at the Emirates Stadium in the last Champions League campaign was a statement win that reflected Arsenal’s maturity as a European side. Another strong night in Germany would add to that story.
Bayern have not lost a Champions League group stage/league phase game at home since their 3–2 defeat to Manchester City in December 2013. Arsenal have also not lost a game in this phase since their loss to Inter Milan in November 2024.
Bayern's weak spots and the Kane threat
Bayern are not without weaknesses. They conceded three at Viking in a 3-3 draw, and Michael Olise, arguably their most creative player, is suspended. Arsenal still need to sharpen up in front of goal. All four of their league phase goals this season have come from midfield, wing and defence (Odegaard, Timber, Eze and Saka). Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz are yet to score in the competition.
They will need that edge against Harry Kane, who scored his 100th Bundesliga goal in record time and now has 102 in 100 league appearances, the most any player has managed after a century of games. He scored in the 6-1 win over Leipzig at the weekend, and he has found the net in nine consecutive Champions League matches. He also has 15 goals in 22 games against Arsenal.
Arsenal's defensive edge
At the other end, Arsenal are yet to concede in this league phase, the fewest of any in the competition. Though only two games have been played, Arsenal would look to continue this record. As per the last Champions League campaign of 25/26, they were undefeated with 11 wins, four draws, and nine clean sheets. The best defensive record in the tournament.
As Arsenal did last year, they can do it again. Though “only” a league phase game, a win away from home is a massive statement and a reminder that this team is still chasing the Big Ears.
