Vincent Kompany could miss Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash against Arsenal this evening after reportedly coming down with a viral infection. His potential absence would be a setback for the German side as they prepare to face one of Europe’s strongest teams.
Bayern will be eager to secure a victory after failing to win their previous match in the competition against Viking in Norway. However, Arsenal represent a formidable challenge, and the Gunners have the quality to punish any mistakes made by their opponents.
Kompany has enjoyed success since taking charge of Bayern, particularly in domestic football. The Belgian will be keen to lead his players from the touchline for such an important European fixture, but his health could prevent him from doing so.
Kompany’s illness raises concerns for Bayern
According to The Washington Post, Kompany is unwell with a viral infection, leaving doubts over whether he will be present when Bayern face Arsenal. The situation could force him to remain at home rather than risk spreading the illness to members of his squad and staff.
His absence would deprive Bayern of their manager’s immediate guidance during a demanding contest. Kompany will also want to ensure he has recovered sufficiently before returning to his duties, meaning his availability could depend on how he feels closer to kick-off.
The timing is far from ideal for Bayern, who need to be well prepared for Arsenal’s attacking threat. The Gunners have the ability to create problems against top opposition, making the manager’s potential absence an additional concern for the German club.

Arsenal could benefit from Kompany’s absence
Arsenal may see Kompany’s possible absence as an opportunity to strengthen their chances of winning, particularly if Bayern struggle without their manager on the touchline. Mikel Arteta’s side will nevertheless need to deliver a strong performance rather than rely on circumstances working in their favour.
Bayern possess considerable individual quality, with several experienced players capable of taking responsibility when their manager is unavailable. Their squad depth means they should not be underestimated, even if Kompany cannot lead them from the sidelines.
The match remains a significant test for both teams, and Bayern will be determined to compete regardless of who occupies the technical area. Arsenal must remain focused, knowing their opponents have enough talent to make the contest difficult.
