Manchester City travel to Villa Park on matchday eight of the 2026/27 Premier League season, with the top-flight confirming the team of match officials to oversee the contest with Aston Villa.
Enzo Maresca and his players will be looking to further continue their 100 per cent winning start to the brand new English top-flight season, despite all of the noise ongoing off the pitch concerning the club's legal battle with the Premier League.
Since the publication of an independent commission's findings, Manchester City have recorded a statement 0-3 win at Liverpool and a dramatic 3-2 victory over top-flight newcomers Ipswich Town.
Those victories have also been accompanied by outings in the UEFA Champions League - a 2-4 home defeat to the reigning holders of the competition in Paris Saint-Germain, as well as a 5-1 win over AEK Athens on Tuesday night.
Saturday lunchtime's kick-off pitches the Premier League leaders Manchester City against the 12th-placed side in Aston Villa, with Unai Emery's men having won two games, drawn two, and lost three so far this season.
But despite the inconsistencies for the most-part of the top-flight season, Aston Villa are currently on a six-game unbeaten run across competitions, including 1-3, 2-3, and 1-3 away wins against Coventry City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Sevilla respectively.
And since the exhibition match victory in Seville, Emery and his players have gone on to draw 2-2 at home to Brentford, beat Fenerbahce 6-0 at home in the UEFA Champions League, and won 0-1 away at Newcastle United, with a home clash against Viking on Wednesday night preceding the Premier League clash at the weekend.
Ahead of the meeting between Aston Villa and Manchester City, the Premier League have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at Villa Park!
Match Referee
The Premier League have confirmed that Merseyside-based match official Peter Bankes will overseen proceedings at Villa Park this weekend from the role of referee for Aston Villa against Manchester City.
Saturday lunchtime's fixture will be Bankes' sixth game across competitions this season, having operated four times in the Premier League and once in the early stages of the Carabao Cup.
Across those five matches, Bankes has issued a total of 17 yellow cards, one straight red card, and awarded no penalties, with Aston Villa being the recipients of the dismissal in their 4-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in late August.
As for Manchester City, the Sky Blues have been officiated by Peter Bankes on 13 previous occasions, emerging victorious in seven of those meetings, drawing once, and losing the other five clashes.
The last time Peter Bankes oversaw a City game came in the Carabao Cup Final of March 2026, when a Nico O'Reilly brace secured the League Cup trophy for Pep Guardiola at Wembley Stadium in a 0-2 win over Arsenal.
Assistant Referees
Supporting Peter Bankes on the field at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon will be a pairing of Gary Beswick and Blake Antrobus, appointed by the Premier League as the contest's assistant referees.
Video Assistant Referees
Overseeing proceedings from the VAR Hub at Stockley Park will be referee Paul Tierney as the Video Assistant Referee, working alongside the Assistant Video Assistant Referee Nick Greenhalgh.
Fourth Official
Standing between the two dugouts and managing matters involving Aston Villa's Unai Emery and Manchester City's Enzo Maresca will be referee Tom Kirk - the game's fourth official.
