There has been a lot of change at the top of the house at Liverpool this summer.

Richard Hughes departed Liverpool to join Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, while a familiar face, Julian Ward, returned to Anfield.

Ward would have noticed a fair few changes since the last time he was at Liverpool, including a new manager in Andoni Iraola in the dugout, as well as a new vice-chairman, Amit Bhatia.

After Ward met with Bhatia, it has been reported by The Athletic that he is viewed as a long-term Sporting Director appointment after signing a rolling contract.

Rio Ngumoha was the star of the night for Liverpool against Villarreal but how far can he go and what is his ceiling?

He is such a talent. Frightening pace, power and explosiveness. He’s not a typical winger in the modern era, actually a bit of a throwback, but he has a really exciting future

I think he could be world class for sure… once he starts adding more goals to his game, he’ll be playing regularly for England. Surely a shoe in for the Euros in 2028

Wasn’t expecting him to have such a big role this season but he has officially arrived! Future Liverpool star and possibly our Salah replacement 👀

What is Julian Ward’s role on his return to Liverpool?

It was mentioned by The Athletic that there was ‘upheaval’ inside Liverpool this summer, with Slot getting sacked, and then the Dutchman being followed by Hughes and Michael Edwards.

But it has been suggested that there is now a sense of ‘calm’ inside the club, and Ward is going to try and play his part in the long term.

It has been reported that Liverpool are looking to ‘establish a number of strategic partnerships with clubs in mainland Europe’, so they can get help to ‘assist’ with some of their next big stars.

These plans are being ‘spearheaded’ by Ward, and their ‘challenge’ is to find the ‘right next step’ for Liverpool’s youngsters trying to break into Andoni Iraola’s first team.

What is Amit Bhatia’s role at Liverpool?

Bhatia is leading a consortium named ‘1892 Holdings’, which acquired a ‘strategic minority equity stake’ in Liverpool, and it includes investors such as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

It has been suggested that Bhatia will sit on the board, but he is there to simply play a ‘supportive’ role and help FSG bring further success to Liverpool.

Of course, Bhatia has already been on a footballing journey with Championship side Queens Park Rangers, spending nearly two decades at Loftus Road, including promotion and several years in the Premier League.
