Head coaches who miss a final training session and pre-match press conference due to a viral infection can still return to preparations within 24 hours. Participation in a closed-doors activation session and travel with the squad to the team hotel provide the clearest signs of recovery. Those developments shift the expectation from uncertainty to availability for the evening fixture.
Discomfort affecting the legs and hips had limited mobility during the previous league match. The assistant coach who assumed responsibility for the session expressed doubt about the timeline. Wednesday’s involvement in the short training and the subsequent journey to the hotel changes the picture.
The side will still be without several key players for the Champions League encounter. A suspended winger, an injured midfielder and a midfielder unavailable for personal reasons remain out. The goalkeeper is expected to return after a separate foot issue.
Vincent Kompany is now expected to take his place on the Bayern Munich touchline for the Champions League encounter against Arsenal, according to Get German Football News. The Belgian participated in Wednesday morning’s activation session at Säbener Straße and travelled with the squad to their team hotel in Unterschleißheim.
Reports from Kicker, Sport Bild and Sky Germany confirm the return to preparations. Sky Germany also filmed Kompany arriving at the hotel. Although Bayern have not officially confirmed he will coach from the touchline, the latest developments strongly suggest he will be available.
Kompany missed Tuesday’s final training session and press conference while recovering from a viral infection that had also affected him during Saturday’s 6-1 Bundesliga victory over RB Leipzig. Assistant coach Aaron Danks said at the time: “Getting Vincent to rest is a difficult challenge. He’s at home resting. We take it day by day, so I’m unsure of his involvement tomorrow.”
The illness was accompanied by discomfort affecting his legs and hips, and Kompany spent much of the Leipzig match seated. Wednesday’s developments indicate he has recovered sufficiently to resume preparations. Bayern will still be without Joshua Kimmich, who is unavailable following a bereavement, Michael Olise remains suspended, and Jamal Musiala is sidelined through injury.
Manuel Neuer is expected to return after overcoming the foot problem that kept him out of the previous two matches. The German record champions welcome Arsenal to the Allianz Arena at 21:00 CEST. Kompany’s presence on the touchline would complete the coaching staff for the league-phase fixture.
The return to the activation session and the hotel travel mark a clear improvement from the position 24 hours earlier. Arsenal will face a Bayern side with their head coach available once more. The final confirmation of his role on the touchline is expected closer to kick-off.
