Arne Slot enjoyed a successful debut season at Liverpool, winning the Premier League title. However, his second campaign unravelled, with the Reds finishing fifth in the table, prompting the club to part ways with the Dutchman.
Liverpool’s disappointing 2025/26 season also included a Champions League quarter-final exit against PSG and a 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Despite spending around £446million on players including Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, Liverpool struggled to meet expectations amid injuries and inconsistent performances.
Slot was subsequently linked with the vacant Netherlands national team position but distanced himself from the role, insisting his priority was returning to club management.
The Dutchman has since joined UEFA’s Technical Observer Group, analysing European matches and studying tactical developments across the continent.
European football’s governing body said: “Slot made his name at Feyenoord, reaching the UEFA Conference League final in 2022 and winning an Eredivisie title and Dutch Cup in the following two campaigns.
“He joined Liverpool in 2024 and immediately guided the club to their second Premier League trophy in five years before departing Anfield this summer.”
However, Slot continues to attract interest. According to De Telegraaf, his name has resurfaced at Tottenham Hotspur amid the club’s difficult start to the season.
Slot’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, is maintaining contact with interested clubs. His role at UEFA could also allow him to assess teams, study tactical systems and evaluate players while considering his next managerial move.
Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly under pressure after Tottenham’s poor form, with Spurs sitting 16th in the Premier League after six matches despite significant summer investment.
Having won both the Premier League and Eredivisie, Arne Slot is unlikely to be short of suitors. The Dutchman is keen to continue his career in European club football.
