Liverpool’s efforts to become a dominant force in the Premier League have seen a huge amount of funds being spent by the hierarchy over the last few years.
Over £600m has been spent on new additions during the last two years alone, but it’s safe to say not all of their investments have been as successful as they anticipated.
Florian Wirtz is undoubtedly the prime example of such failures in recent times, with the supporters still divided over his ability to provide the goods after arriving for £116m last summer.

However, the same can’t be said about one player who has seemingly continued to provide phenomenal value for money after his own move to Merseyside.
Why Mac Allister is one of Liverpool's best signings in recent years
During the summer of 2023, Jürgen Klopp oversaw his final window as Liverpool manager and decided to approve the signing of midfielder Alexis Mac Allister from Premier League rivals Brighton.
Such a deal cost a reported £35m and handed the Reds a long-term solution to the issues that constantly plagued them throughout the season prior.

A little over three years on from the aforementioned move, and there’s no denying that the Argentine is now one of the most influential players within Andoni Iraola’s squad.
He’s racked up 161 appearances across all competitions since his subsequent move, even managing to find the net 23 times - often doing so from long range.
Mac Allister has netted at least five goals across his three full seasons at Anfield, not to mention already netting four times in 11 outings during the current campaign.

His partnership alongside Ryan Gravenberch was undoubtedly a crucial factor to the club’s title win in the 2024/25 campaign, with the Argentine able to benefit from the Dutchman’s ball-winning ability.
That’s not to say he’s not capable of starring without the ball, as the 27-year-old has managed to register the second most defensive contributions per 90 of any player in Iraola’s squad this term.
How Liverpool can secure a mega upgrade on Mac Allister
Despite the impressive partnership between Mac Allister and Gravenberch over recent times, Liverpool have made no secret of their efforts to land a new midfielder.
Iraola was unable to land a new addition in such an area during the summer window, but attention was quickly turned to the winter market, which opens on the 1st of January.

Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha has been touted as a possible option, with Manchester United another club also interested in signing the German international.
However, he’s not the only option the Reds are currently pursuing, with Bournemouth star Alex Scott another option who could arrive at Anfield in the months ahead.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest on a possible deal, stating: Then there is Liverpool. Liverpool made calls at the end of June and the beginning of July.

“So, let’s see what is going to happen next. Chelsea are definitely there for Alex Scott. Again, regarding Liverpool, it was about calls, but as far as Liverpool are concerned, let’s see what is going to happen with Alex Scott.”
The Cherries have been extremely reluctant to offload the English international over recent times, which even led to a £100m price tag being placed above his head.
Iraola’s time working with the 23-year-old at the Vitality could well hand the Reds a boost in their pursuit, but it remains to be seen if they will match such an asking price.
The figure is undoubtedly a lofty one, but it would see the club land a long-term solution to their midfield efforts - not to mention securing a player a class above Mac Allister.
When comparing Scott’s stats to those of the Argentine from the current season, he’s managed to better him in key areas - highlighting why he would be a phenomenal signing for the Reds.
The Bournemouth star has managed to create a staggering 2.2 chances per 90 so far this campaign, with such a tally over two times higher than the Argentine.

Such numbers showcase his tremendous ability to make things tick within attacking areas, which could allow the likes of Bradley Barcola and Alexander Isak to improve their own tallies.
His dominance over Mac Allister in possession is further evident in his higher dribble success rate, further highlighting how he can break lines and progress the play with his technical talent.
Without the ball, Scott has also managed to have the upper hand over the £35m addition, subsequently making more tackles and ball recoveries per 90.
The aforementioned figures, coupled with his attacking numbers, make him the perfect box-to-box option for Iraola - who arguably developed the Englishman into the talent he is today.
Such an opportunity for the midfielder to work with the Spaniard again could even allow him to develop further, which could see him become a bargain - even at £100m.
Replacing Mac Allister may seem a somewhat controversial call, but it’s one that would no doubt benefit the club in the long-term in their efforts to dominate the Premier League.
