The Liverpool fanbase are one which demand success at the very highest level, but have often found themselves wanting more from countless senior members.

There’s no denying the Reds have fallen below expectations since the turn of the millennium, with the first team only winning two Premier League titles during the last 26 years.

A huge amount of money has been wasted during the aforementioned period, with a lorry load of big-money additions unable to catapult the club to success.

However, Andoni Iraola could be the latest manager to achieve success on Merseyside, and one player will likely play a vital role in any success endured in the near future.

Why Ngumoha is now becoming Liverpool's best player

Ever since his senior debut 12 months ago, you just knew Rio Ngumoha would turn out to be a player who will develop into a world-class talent for Liverpool.

The 18-year-old has emerged through the academy setup over recent years after moving from Chelsea, and has now become a crucial member of Iraola’s senior squad.

He’s started all three of the Reds’ games in the Champions League this campaign, with his showing against Villarreal on Tuesday night arguably his best since his debut.

The winger registered two assists during the 4-2 comeback win over the Spanish outfit, with his underlying figures from such an encounter showcasing his phenomenal talent in forward areas.

During his 74-minute showing, Ngumoha managed to register 12 touches in the opposition box, whilst completing nine successful dribbles - the most of any player on the pitch at Anfield.

Alongside the aforementioned figures, the youngster also managed to create three chances for his teammates - which led to him registering his two assists.

The LaLiga outfit were simply unable to live with the constant threat posed by the direct nature of the attacker, subsequently resulting in him being fouled on two separate occasions.

Why one Liverpool player will never play again because of Ngumoha

The emergence of Ngumoha over the last couple of months has certainly handed Liverpool a hugely talented option to operate within attacking areas of the pitch.

Players such as Federico Chiesa have seen a huge decline of minutes in the senior ranks, with the Englishman able to now operate off either flank under Iraola.

However, he’s certainly not the only player to have lost out because of the teenager’s talent, with compatriot Harvey Elliott once again being shipped out on loan this summer.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, but their decision not to land him permanently handed the forward a chance to catch the eye of Iraola during pre-season.

Instead, the new manager decided that the versatile forward was no longer needed at Anfield and sanctioned another season-long move - this time to join Spanish side Valencia.

Such a call was undoubtedly made to allow Ngumoha to have the game time he needs to progress after bursting onto the scene during the 2025/26 campaign.

The move to LaLiga has so far been an unsuccessful one for Elliott, who has featured just five times to date - none of which being from a starting position.

He’s featured for a total of 133 minutes during his current loan spell, with his underlying stats showcasing why he’s now a level below that of Ngumoha.

Elliott has failed to complete a single dribble during his first five games for Valencia, whilst only being able to pick out a teammate with one of his attempted crosses.

Such numbers showcase his struggles within attacking areas - something which can’t be said about the teenage star, who’s going from strength to strength on Merseyside.

The 23-year-old, who’s valued at £18m by FotMob, has now gone over 12 months without a professional goal or assist, which further demonstrates his struggles within forward areas of the pitch.

Given his decline and Ngumoha’s constant eye-catching performances on Merseyside, it’s highly likely that the former Fulham man has played his final game for the Reds.

It’s a sad sight to see given the previous levels achieved by Elliott, but ultimately he’s been a victim of the club’s desire to become a force in the Premier League.
