Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is unsure whether Johan Manzambi will be available to face Manchester City on Saturday.

The 21-year-old suffered an injury in the second half of Villa’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United last weekend.

Manzambi scored the only goal of the game at St James’ Park but was forced off after asking to be substituted.

He was ruled out of Villa’s Champions League game against Viking FK on Wednesday night, and Emery does not yet know whether the Swiss international will recover in time for the weekend.

“I don’t know now. Tomorrow we will see about our players. Saturday is in a few days,” Emery said in his post-match press conference.

“We must be ready in case he is not [ready], to stay consistent collectively. Individually, some players did one step forward, getting confidence and feeling comfortable. In case he can play, fantastic, but if not, then we wait for the next match. I don’t know if he will be available.”

Villa will be targeting their first home league win of the season against City, having lost to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest before drawing 2-2 with Brentford following the extended international break.

They will head into the game on the back of three consecutive wins against Fenerbahce, Newcastle and Viking.
