Chelsea scouting Nico Paz: Clearlake ready to pay‘extremely high’fee for Como sensation

Under the guidance of Cesc Fabregas at Como, Nico Paz is quickly becoming one of the most-talked-about attacking midfielders in world football, and according to reports, Chelsea are keeping tabs.

The Blues might have signed Morgan Rogers in the summer, but Clearlake’s ambition knows no bounds. The club’s scouting department continue to scour the market for signings, but Paz needs no introduction.

The Spain-born Argentina international has been a revelation under Fabregas. Initially joining Como from Real Madrid in 2024, Paz has gone on to have a hand in 45 goals during 85 appearances for the Italians.

Chelsea have sent scouts to watch Nico Paz

According to a report from TuttoMercatoWeb, which was published before Como’s stunning 4-1 win over Manchester United in the Champions League, Chelsea sent scouts to watch Paz in the two games prior.

A 3-2 loss to Feyenoord in the Champions League, in which Paz captained a Como side undone by mistakes from Robert Sanchez, and then Sunday’s 3-1 win over Fiorentina. He got a goal and an assist.

The report states that Chelsea are willing to pay an ‘extremely high’ fee for Paz, and they will need to do so. Real Madrid have a buyback clause in Paz’s Como deal next summer, said to be worth about £70m.

The report goes on to say that Chelsea are not concerned about spending big on Paz, who has already had a hand in nine goals this season, making 10 appearances. On Wednesday night, Paz sparkled.

Two goals and an assist in a 4-1 hammering of Manchester United. If Paz wasn’t already considered one of Europe’s most exciting talents, he proved he is worth all the hype with his stunning display last night.

What manager Cesc Fabregas has said about Chelsea target Paz

It is not the first time that Chelsea have been linked with Paz. At the beginning of 2026, Chelsea were reported to have enquired about Paz – but were told that it was likely he would be joining Real Madrid.

Fabregas rates Paz very highly. So much so that Fabregas convinced Como’s hierarchy to sign Paz for £50m after Real Madrid had activated a £9m buyback clause from Como. Paz wanted to remain at Como.

In 2025, Fabregas said this about Paz: “He’s a champion. I am confident about his future. I can tell when a player has the mindset to become a top player. If he continues like this, he can go wherever he wants.”

When a midfield maestro like Fabregas backs a player to reach the heights of world football, it is clear that the man in question is a good player. Paz is now proving that in the Champions League this term.

Obviously, Paz’s long-term future is not going to be at Como, even if it is likely to remain that way until the end of the current campaign. It is believed Paz has entered the final two years of his Como contract.
