Manchester United’s season went from bad to worse on Wednesday night as they suffered a humbling 4-1 defeat against Como in the Champions League group phase.

The Red Devils have won just once in the Premier League so far this season, and Michael Carrick’s side got off to a bad start when Nico Paz opened the scoring for Cesc Fabregas’ side inside three minutes.

The Serie A side then doubled their lead shortly after the break, and were 3-0 up before the hour mark when Paz netted his second.

Defender Jacobo Ramon then added a fourth for the hosts, before substitute Joshua Zirkzee pulled one back for United.

Carrick was already under pressure after his side’s poor start to the campaign, and the former England midfielder will now be desperate to see his side turn things around when they face Bournemouth on Sunday.

In the meantime, though, it has emerged that one of United’s rivals are interested in a player that caused them a number of problems on Wednesday night.

As reported by Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, via TEAMtalk, Chelsea have been monitoring Como star Paz, 22, and are willing to spend big to sign the sensation.

Paz joined Como from Spanish giants Real Madrid in 2024, having made just eight senior appearances for Los Blancos.

Since arriving in Italy, though, the attacking midfielder has scored 23 goals and provided 22 assists in 85 matches across all competitions, earning him a reputation as one of the best young players in Europe.

The report suggests that Paz’s former club, Real, have an option to re-sign the player for a fee of around £67 million, but Chelsea are also in the running to sign the star.

Paz is under contract with Como until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
