Liverpool host Brighton at Anfield this weekend, with Fabian Hurzeler’s side arriving in excellent form. The Seagulls have scored more goals than any other Premier League team while conceding the joint-fewest.
However, Liverpool have several players racing to be fit, with Jeremie Frimpong unlikely to return until after the November international break due to a muscle injury.
“Frimpong has a new muscle injury. It’s difficult to predict [when he will return],” said Andoni Iraola. “We will have to wait until he recovers but it is going to be difficult before the break. We will try, but it is going to be difficult to have him.”
Jeremie Frimpong was Liverpool’s first signing after their 2025 title triumph as the club looked to lay the foundations for a potential dynasty.
Although he was not the biggest name or most expensive arrival in a summer of unprecedented spending, there was significant excitement about his potential to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold or provide backup for Mohamed Salah.
However, hamstring problems disrupted his debut season, and the issue resurfaced at the weekend. Fresh from scoring in Liverpool’s 6-3 win over LASK, Frimpong came off the bench against Brentford but lasted just six minutes before pulling up with an injury.
According to The Athletic, the setback is not considered serious, offering some encouragement. Nevertheless, with fixtures coming thick and fast, another spell on the sidelines could prove frustrating for the Dutchman.
Ronald Araujo started against Villarreal but was withdrawn at half-time as a precaution. Rather than introduce a like-for-like replacement at right-back, Iraola opted to use Ryan Gravenberch in a makeshift role, with Joe Gomez later providing cover at centre-back.
With Frimpong sidelined and Conor Bradley still unavailable, his absence is a frustrating setback for Liverpool. The Netherlands internationals has racked up eight appearances, scored one goal and provided two assists for Liverpool across all competitions this season.
