Eagles get trade idea from ESPN for $12M CB that would be a horrible move image
Philadelphia Eagles fans should expect to see their favorite team ship out some players by the 2026 NFL trade deadline in November. Jalen Hurts is done for the season, Lane Johnson is retired, and there are injuries all across the roster.
For the Eagles, a sell-off is looking very likely this season. Howie Roseman can be trusted to manage this properly, even though selling wasn't ever in the plans. One player likely to go is $12 million cornerback Riq Woolen.
ESPN's Bill Barnwell proposed a trade idea for the Eagles with Woolen, which isn't strange, but the deal he pitched with the Carolina Panthers just wouldn't make much sense for the Eagles.
Eagles trade idea from ESPN with Riq Woolen makes no sense
"Panthers get: CB Riq Woolen, 2028 sixth-round pick. Eagles get: TE Ja'Tavion Sanders, 2028 fifth-round pick," Barnwell proposed.
The fit for Woolen here makes sense, as the Panthers do need cornerback help. Plus, the Eagles trading Woolen, who's set to become a free agent after the 2026 season ends, makes a ton of sense as well.
However, the trade idea Barnwell presented would be a terrible move for the Eagles. Sanders is buried on the Panthers' tight end depth chart, and it's not a very good room anyways.

While the Eagles need to fix things in their tight end room, with Dallas Goedert a potential trade candidate in the final year of his deal, and their other options being far from ideal, Sanders wouldn't be a good long-term or short-term fix for the Eagles.
But that's not the only part that makes no sense. Going from a 2028 sixth-round pick to a 2028 fifth-round pick isn't much in return for Woolen, especially considering the Eagles might be able to get a fourth-round compensatory pick next offseason for him.
A third-round compensatory pick isn't out of the question either, which makes the Eagles accepting just a Day 3 pick swap and a depth tight end in a Woolen trade a horrible deal.
This trade idea from Barnwell would be a bad move for Roseman and the Eagles to make, as they should be looking for better draft compensation for Woolen, or at least a more talented player than Sanders if they move on from Woolen this Fall.
