Addressing the media ahead of Thursday's matchup in OKC, Nuggets coach David Adelman revealed that Spencer Jones will not be playing as a precaution due to his hamstring injury.
"It's one of those injuries that could turn out to be a serious thing,” Adelman told reporters, per Altitude Sports' Katy Winge.
"You can’t lose your backup power forward night one."
Spencer Jones unavailable for Nuggets season opener vs Thunder
Spencer Jones sustained a left hamstring strain during the Denver Nuggets' training camp practices. He did not play in the team's entire preseason slate.
Jones told reporters Sunday that he expects to finally play in their season opener against the OKC Thunder. However, the Nuggets are playing it safe for the forward and his recently healed hamstring.
Jones averaged 5.5 points and 3.2 rebounds in 22.1 minutes of action for 64 games (37 starts) last season, establishing himself as a reliable wing unit for the Nikola Jokic-led team.
He rejoined Denver this past offseason via a two-year, $11.7 million deal after the Nuggets matched the Oklahoma City Thunder's contract offer for him as a restricted free agent.
