After scoring just 17 points in the Oklahoma City Thunder's 96–84 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Thursday, the two-time MVP saw his record-breaking streak of consecutive 20-point games snapped.
Gilgeous-Alexander's remarkable run ends at 141 consecutive games, bringing an end to one of the most impressive scoring streaks in NBA history.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's historic scoring run is over
Playing his second game of the brand-new NBA season with the OKC Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander endured a rough and unusual shooting facing the Denver Nuggets' defense.
He had a slow start and went 0-of-6 in the first half, and his chance to reach the 20-point mark completely disappeared when he was subbed out by Thunder coach Mark Daigneault with 1:44 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 17 points on 6-of-19 shooting from the field (0-of-4 from three-point range) in 34 minutes of play.
When was the last time SGA scored less than 20 points?
The last time Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored less than 20 points in a regular-season game before Thursday against the Denver Nuggets was on Oct. 30, 2024. He dropped 18 points in OKC Thunder's 105-93 victory against the San Antonio Spurs.
The Canadian superstar notably broke Wilt Chamberlain's record for the most consecutive regular-season games scoring 20-plus points back in March, surpassing the late legend's 126 straight games.
Gilgeous-Alexander will have a chance to start a new scoring run on Sunday against the LA Clippers
