Jamie Carragher has backed Bournemouth to win against Manchester United and Chelsea to beat Tottenham in his predictions for Premier League gameweek eight.

The former Liverpool and England defender expects United’s difficult season to continue on Sunday with a 2-0 loss to Bournemouth at Old Trafford, and he also backed Chelsea to beat Spurs by the same score on Saturday.

The Red Devils' 4-1 Champions League defeat away to Como stretched their winless run to seven matches in all competitions. Michael Carrick apologised to the travelling fans after the game and called the performance 'unacceptable'.

Manchester United have just one win in seven Premier League games this season and are 13th in the table. Carragher believes their torrid run of form will continue this Sunday.

In addition to backing Chelsea to secure a 2-0 win over Spurs, Carragher also predicted the result of other Premier League fixtures, including Arsenal vs Everton and Liverpool vs Brighton & Hove Albion.

He stated:

"What a cracking line-up we have in the Premier League this weekend. I don’t think Arsenal will have any problems beating Everton especially given how strong they’ve been this season.

"However, Brighton might not be so lucky at Anfield as I can see Liverpool ending their winning streak. Elsewhere, I see Chelsea winning against Spurs at home on Saturday."

Manchester City hold a three-point advantage over Arsenal in the Premier League title race. They face Aston Villa in Saturday's early kick-off.

Chelsea recapture form after international break and hold big advantage over Manchester United in top four race

Xabi Alonso's team have bounced back after the international break. The Blues suffered a 3-0 loss to Brentford before the three-week-long hiatus. That defeat left them in 10th place in the Premier League table.

However, since returning to action, Chelsea have won back-to-back games. They beat Bournemouth 5-1 at Stamford Bridge before securing a 2-0 win away from home against Everton last Saturday.

Alonso and co. are now in the driving seat for Champions League qualification. They sit fourth in the table above Liverpool. The west London club have secured 13 points from seven games, which includes four wins, two losses and a draw.

In comparison, Manchester United have just one win, four draws and two losses. The Red Devils are six points and nine places behind the Blues. As things stand, United must pull off a remarkable turnaround if they are to qualify for the Champions League again.
