[FC Barcelona are set to host their bitter rivals Real Madrid in their next fixture](https://barcanewsnetwork.com/report-exposes-numbers-that-undermine-jose-mourinhos-scheduling-complaint-ahead-of-barcelona-clash/), and with the historical nature of their rivalry and the very large fan-followings of the two clubs, this upcoming El Clasico is gripping every part of the world.
As [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20261022/1004242063/klopp-pronuncia-sobre-clasico-razona-iba-barca.html) has noted, Jurgen Klopp, one of the most prominent figures in European football and the German national team coach, who is not associated with either club, recently commented on this Sunday’s classic, and talked about some aspects of this game in an appearance with DAZN. The former Liverpool coach assured that he rarely misses watching an El Clasico:
**“It’s a match I love watching.”**
The German tactician tried to maintain neutrality, but was quite clear about which of the two teams he would be supporting on Sunday:
**“Today, I’m backing whichever team is better. And given how things stand, that team is probably Barcelona.”**
He also revealed that he used to support the Catalan side in the past:
**“In the past, I favoured Barcelona more because I hated seeing Pepe and the other defenders kick lumps out of everyone who came their way back then. That was the only reason I supported Barcelona more.”**
Jurgen Klopp remains one of the most prominent personalities in European football, and Barcelona fans would certainly be happy to see an individual of his stature supporting their team in such a big game.
The German coach might have more reasons to support the Catalan side. One of his compatriots, Hansi Flick, would be leading the Blaugranes, while Karim Adeyemi, whom he recalled for the German national team in his first squad list as the national team coach, will also be playing for Barcelona. Meanwhile, there are no German internationals in the Real Madrid team, as Antonio Rudiger announced his retirement after the end of the World Cup.
