Newcastle United target Joaquin Seys has admitted that he is “not really thinking” about leaving Club Brugge “yet”.

The Magpies were one of four Premier League clubs who were interested in signing the Belgian international last summer, but when asked for his thoughts on a potential transfer, Seys replied:

“To be honest, I’m not really thinking about that yet. This is the club I love, so it’s wonderful that I’ve already been able to play so many matches here.”

“This club is close to my heart, and I would give everything for it. Right now, I’m focusing entirely on Club Brugge, and we’ll see what happens after that.”

Seys has plenty of suitors

The fullback has already confirmed that Manchester United were keen on signing him, while The Sun reported in August that Newcastle were one of the other English teams tracking him, along with Arsenal and Aston Villa.

At the time, it was claimed that Club Brugge would have sold Seys if a club had matched their €35m (£30m) asking price, but ultimately he stayed in Belgium.

Newcastle United need competition for Hall

While the likes of Dan Burn and Tino Livramento can operate at left-back, there isn’t a natural replacement in the squad if Lewis Hall gets injured.

It is therefore not surprising that sporting director Ross Wilson was considering a move for Seys during the summer transfer window.

He fits the profile of targets the club now recruit at 21 years of age. Furthermore, he is in good form (with 1 goal and 4 assists in 13 appearances), and he has played at international level, having been capped 8 times by Belgium, including one appearance against Spain at the World Cup.
