Liverpool vs Brighton Crests
Liverpool prepare to welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Anfield on Sunday, but the build-up to the Premier League meeting has been dominated by something other than team news.
According to This Is Anfield, the fixture itself may not survive the weekend intact.
It would not be the first time in recent seasons that the elements have interrupted Liverpool’s fixture list.
The Merseyside derby at Goodison Park was postponed in December 2024 after Storm Darragh brought gusts of up to 90mph to the region, forcing officials to call the match off on safety grounds just hours before kick-off. It was eventually replayed in February 2025.
A month later, Liverpool’s home match against Manchester United also came close to being postponed, with overnight snow around Anfield prompting two separate safety meetings before the game was finally cleared to go ahead as scheduled.
Now, with Brighton due at Anfield this weekend, a fresh weather system is again threatening to disrupt Liverpool’s schedule.
Liverpool’s Premier League fixture against Brighton could be in doubt for safety reasons after storm warnings were issued, with winds of up to 60 miles per hour expected.
The match is scheduled for Sunday at 2pm GMT, live on Sky Sports.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning covering the period from midday Saturday through to 9pm on Sunday, citing very windy conditions expected to persist through matchday.
Gusts of 55 to 65mph are forecast across Merseyside, linked to Storm Austen, the first named storm of the 2026-27 season.
Conditions may ease gradually later in the day, but the final call on whether the match proceeds rests with the local Safety Advisory Group.
That group includes representatives from both clubs, Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, and its focus is on public safety rather than pitch condition.
