Andrée Jeglertz believes that Bunny Shaw’s all-round game is getting even better as she gets ready for her 100th Women’s Super League appearance for City.
The City striker once again sits on top of the WSL scoring charts with seven goals in six matches so far this season to help the Blues to a perfect start.
Bunny will be hoping to extend that record against Manchester United when we make the short trip to Leigh on Sunday for the first Manchester derby of the season at 18:00 (UK).
She has won the Golden Boot in three of the past four seasons with last year’s haul of 22 goals her best campaign so far.
Jeglertz confirmed she is fit and ready to start the derby and says her all-round game is better than ever.
“She’s definitely fine, she’s been training in the week so no issues,” the boss said in his pre-match news conference.
“We talk quite often about her goalscoring but there has been a little bit of a shift this year about how much she works defensively and how much she helps the team.
“I see it in the training sessions taking one step in her development and being more engaged with how the team find more ways to score and not just how she can score.
“She has a great impact on us. Our job is to win games and with her in the box it’s always a scoring chance.”
And Jeglertz believes Bunny is hungrier than ever to continue her incredible goalscoring record with the help of her team-mates.
“Probably first of all it’s her own mentality,” he added. “She’s not satisfied and wants to keep on going.
“But also look at her teammates, how they’re serving her and giving her opportunities.
“It’s a mix of things. It’s about her mentality, there’s a lot of players that become satisfied but she’s still hungry for her own development and that’s the foundation of everything.”
