Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has been transferred to hospital after reportedly collapsing at the Bundesliga giants' training ground on Friday, with Manchester City releasing a statement.
Reports emerged on Friday afternoon revealing that the Belgian football icon and 40-year-old head coach of the German giants had been taken to a Munich hospital via ambulance after collapsing at the club's training ground.
The former Manchester City captain and club legend is understood to have received medical attention at Bayern Munich's headquarters, following the incident which is confirmed to have taken place as Kompany watched the second team's training session.
A Bayern Munich club statement on Friday evening also confirmed that Vincent Kompany is now undergoing thorough examinations in hospital and is due to remain under medical supervision.
For the time being, as Kompany recovers and remains under monitoring, Bayern Munich have announced that the Belgian's coaching staff will take charge of training and matchday operations.
Bayern Munich's sporting director Max Eberl said as part of a club statement, “Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority. We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure that he recovers quickly."
Eberl continued, "Vinnie will receive all the necessary medical care and support, as well as all the time he needs. His coaching staff, whom we trust completely, will take over his duties. All of us at FC Bayern wish Vinnie a speedy recovery.”
Man City issue statement on Vincent Kompany
Now, in light of well-wishes from supporters, Manchester City themselves have issued a statement of support for their former club captain - who won a remarkable four Premier League honours at the Etihad Stadium.
"Everyone at Manchester City is wishing a speedy recovery to our former captain and Club legend, Vincent Kompany. Get well soon, Vinny," the Premier League giants wrote on social media.
Kompany remains close to Manchester City
Unsurprisingly, given the legendary former central defender's achievements during his time at the Etihad Stadium, Vincent Kompany remains extremely close to figures at Manchester City and most recent paid a visit to the club at the end of last season.
Bidding farewell to Pep Guardiola, Bernardo Silva, and John Stones in a special event at the Co-Op Live Arena, adjacent to the Etihad Stadium, Kompany returned to the North-West to engage in celebrations.
Returning to his former home, Vincent Kompany emerged on-stage to lift the 2017/18 Premier League trophy in front of a packed-out Arena, as Manchester City stars of past and present raised all pieces of silverware won during Guardiola's 10-year stay at the club.
Many Manchester City fans continue to hope that Kompany can become a future manager of their club, although focus at present remains very much on the ongoing successful start seen by Enzo Maresca - who won all seven of his first seven Premier League games in charge after succeeding Pep Guardiola as manager.
