NFL Quarterback Pulled Over And Detained In Shocking Scene

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is dealing with an off-field issue after being charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession following a traffic stop in Indiana earlier this month.

The news was reported after court records revealed details of the October 12 stop in Carmel, Indiana. While some reports have described the incident as an arrest, Richardson was not formally arrested during the traffic stop. He was detained while officers searched his vehicle, then released after receiving a citation and a summons related to the possession charge. Prosecutors formally filed the charge on October 19. According to reporting by ESPN and the Associated Press, Richardson is scheduled for a bench trial on January 4, 2027.

What Happened During Anthony Richardson’s Traffic Stop?

According to the probable cause affidavit, a Carmel police officer pulled Richardson over after noticing an expired registration tag and a license plate that did not match the vehicle’s registration.

When the officer approached the vehicle, he reported smelling marijuana. Richardson allegedly told the officer that he had smoked marijuana inside the car because he did not want to smoke around his children at home.

The affidavit states that officers subsequently searched the vehicle and found approximately five grams of suspected marijuana, along with a bag containing five marijuana gummies in a small jar inside the glove compartment. The suspected marijuana and gummies were collected as evidence.

Richardson received a citation for the registration issue and a summons for the marijuana possession charge. The charge is a Class B misdemeanor under Indiana law.
