Young forwards who break through with double-digit goal tallies in their first Premier League season quickly attract attention from bigger clubs. Injury setbacks can pause that interest while the player rebuilds fitness, yet the underlying valuation often remains high. The latest update on one such forward confirms he is progressing well, though his current club continues to close the door on a mid-season departure.
The 20-year-old joined from Lorient for £10m and scored 13 league goals last term. Significant interest followed in the summer, with estimates that a fee close to £100m would be needed to test the selling club’s resolve. Those talks never advanced once a pre-season foot injury required surgery.
He has now returned to team training and could feature for minutes in the coming days. His club maintain they have no intention of entertaining offers in January. Arsenal remain among the sides previously linked.
Eli Junior Kroupi is on course to make his return from injury earlier than expected, following an update on a potential January exit from Bournemouth. As reported by Standard Sport in the summer, Kroupi was a target for Arsenal after scoring 13 goals in his first Premier League season, having joined Bournemouth for £10m from Lorient.
Amid significant interest, it was understood that a bid of close to £100m would likely be required to test Bournemouth’s resolve. The Cherries’ stance was that the 20-year-old was not for sale, with club insiders believing that Kroupi would benefit from another season with them and their position being strengthened by securing European football. Ultimately he stayed put.
While Arsenal, among other clubs, have been tipped to make a move for the Frenchman in the winter window, BBC Sport have recently reported that Bournemouth are still not willing to entertain any offers in January. Bournemouth boss Marco Rose said: “Junior is back into team training but not on the UEFA list, but maybe we can have him for some minutes in Manchester.”
Kroupi has been sidelined since suffering a fractured metatarsal in pre-season and underwent surgery. He was expected to miss up to four months, yet the latest indication is that a return to competitive action is closer than first feared. Bournemouth have no plans to sell him in the winter transfer window, though they have softened their not-for-sale stance on Alex Scott.
Arsenal’s previous interest was driven by the need for additional attacking options after summer departures. Kroupi’s form last season made him one of the more prominent young forwards in the league. His recovery timeline now becomes the immediate focus before any further transfer speculation can develop. The January window remains closed for business where he is concerned.
