Quick turnarounds after European fixtures often force managers to weigh freshness against continuity in the next league game. Wide options can shrink further when two attackers are unavailable at the same time. The side hosting Everton must therefore adjust their attacking shape while deciding how heavily to rotate elsewhere.
The winger who limped off early in Munich remains sidelined with a quad issue. Another summer signing is still working through a hamstring problem and is not ready for selection. Those absences leave the manager with a narrower set of choices on the flanks for the afternoon kick-off.
A defender who missed the midweek trip has returned to full training and is expected to be available. The manager is unlikely to make wholesale changes given the cup fixture that follows next week. The predicted lineup reflects a balance between those who featured in Germany and players who can come in to freshen the side.
Arsenal must cope without Bukayo Saka when they host Everton on Saturday afternoon. The winger is out with a quad injury he picked up against Bayern Munich in midweek, with Saka limping off inside the opening ten minutes. With Saka out and Christos Tzolis not yet available after a hamstring injury, Mikel Arteta’s options in wide areas are limited.
Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze are both expected to start, while Max Dowman will hope for minutes off the bench. It is a fairly quick turnaround for Arsenal after their trip to Munich on Wednesday night. However, with a Carabao Cup clash with Fleetwood to come next week, Arteta is unlikely to significantly rotate his side.
Piero Hincapie is available again after recovering from an ankle problem and he took part in full first-team training on Friday. He is expected to make the squad against Everton, but Arteta is likely to manage his minutes and could see the Fleetwood match as a better opportunity for Hincapie. Myles Lewis-Skelly is an option to come in and freshen up the midfield and Ben White could replace Jurrien Timber at right-back after the Dutchman played the full 90 minutes at the Allianz Arena.
Up front, Kai Havertz has looked well off his best since the international break and Viktor Gyokeres took his opportunity off the bench against Bayern. Gyokeres, though, is likely to start in the Carabao Cup and that could mean Havertz keeps his place in the league.
Predicted Arsenal XI: Raya; White, Konsa, Gabriel, Calafiori; Rice, Lewis-Skelly; Madueke, Odegaard, Eze; Havertz. Injured: Saliba, Tzolis, Saka. The match is at 3pm BST on Saturday 24 October at the Emirates Stadium. The predicted selection keeps a familiar core while introducing changes where minutes or form allow.
