Liverpool are continuing to prepare for the 2027 January transfer window, with the Reds expected to assess their options as Andoni Iraola looks to reshape his squad.
Liverpool have shown signs of improvement under Iraola, beating Villarreal 4-3 on Wednesday night, but further changes could be needed.
Strengthening the midfield is understood to be a priority, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara among the leading targets.
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha has also attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool.
According to Sky Germany, there has been recent contact between Liverpool and the 26-year-old’s representatives. However, the Reds are not currently preparing a concrete move for the German.
Nmecha has been at Dortmund since the summer of 2023 and is contracted until 2030. He has made 123 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in all competitions.
Nmecha is now in his fourth season at Dortmund and would qualify as a homegrown player in the Premier League following his time at Manchester City.
An athletic, physical midfielder, the Germany international is comfortable on the ball and covers plenty of ground in a box-to-box role.
His two goals have made him Dortmund’s joint-top scorer in the Bundesliga this season. Liverpool have a clear need for midfield reinforcements, with Iraola largely relying on Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Trey Nyoni.
Wataru Endo and James McConnell are also options, although Endo is yet to feature under Iraola, while McConnell made a nine-minute cameo against Villarreal.
Whether Nmecha is Liverpool’s preferred target remains to be seen, but the club are expected to continue assessing several midfielders, including AS Roma’s Manu Kone and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
Nmecha reportedly has an €80million release clause that can be activated this summer until the end of June next year. He has racked up 11 appearances and netted twice for Dortmund across all competitions this season.
