Liverpool are working on a new long-term contract for Rio Ngumoha after the teenager impressed in their 4-3 Champions League victory over Villarreal.
The 18-year-old provided two assists as the Reds came from two goals down to secure a dramatic win at Anfield and maintain their perfect start to the competition.
Villarreal raced into a two-goal lead through Georges Mikautadze and Sergi Cardona before Alexis Mac Allister headed home from a Kostas Tsimikas corner to give Liverpool hope.
Ngumoha then produced a delightful chipped pass for Ronald Araujo to equalise just before half-time, becoming Liverpool’s youngest Champions League assist provider at 18 years and 52 days.
He continued to trouble Villarreal after the break, beating Cardona before squaring the ball for Mac Allister to put Liverpool ahead. Florian Wirtz added a fourth before Tani Oluwaseyi pulled one back late on, but Liverpool held on for a crucial victory.
Ngumoha’s performance underlined his creativity, confidence and ability to influence matches at the highest level. Liverpool are keen to secure his long-term future, with the club viewing him as a key part of their plans.
Rio Ngumoha has officially signed a new deal with Adidas, further highlighting his growing profile both on and off the pitch this campaign.
A statement read: “The future is looking different. 🌟🤝 Rio Ngumoha signs a new deal with adidas! Three stripes, big dreams, and a bright future ahead. ⚡️👟”
Ngumoha has reportedly attracted interest from Arsenal in recent months, although there is optimism within Liverpool’s hierarchy that the teenager will commit his long-term future to the club.
His current contract runs until June 2028, but he became eligible for an extended deal and a significant pay rise after turning 18 in late August. Ngumoha remains calm about his future and is enjoying his development at Liverpool.
He is also relishing his relationship with Andoni Iraola, who is pleased with the teenager’s progress and enjoys working with him. This season, the England international has made nine appearances and provided two assists for Liverpool in all competitions.
