Tottenham have not yet confirmed their plans for Gunter following his return from Boreham Wood. The 21-year-old could feature for the club’s under-21s in the short term, with another loan move potentially on the cards when the January transfer window opens.
For Gunter, the priority has to be regular first-team football, particularly after losing his starting place at Boreham Wood. Another loan would make sense, although Spurs will need to find a club where he has a realistic chance of playing consistently.
Breaking into Tottenham’s senior side looks an increasingly difficult task for the young goalkeeper. Antonin Kinsky is currently Roberto De Zerbi’s first-choice option, with Martin Dubravka serving as backup and Brandon Austin also ahead of Gunter in the pecking order.
While Gunter has twice been named on the bench for Tottenham’s first team, his long-term future may well lie away from the club. That does not mean he cannot establish himself as a regular goalkeeper at senior level, but another successful loan spell could be important in helping him take that next step.
