NFL Rumors: Chiefs, Eagles Linked in Spooky $75M Blockbuster Deal

nfl rumors

In the latest NFL rumors, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles could agree to a monumental trade ahead of the NFL’s Nov. 10 deadline. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell wrote that the Chiefs could acquire Eagles TE Dallas Goedert, but instead a superstar pass-catcher could be heading to Kansas City. Devonta Smith, a former first-round pick, is not rumored to be a trade candidate this offseason or anytime soon, but could be a name to watch if the Chiefs are aggressive buyers. Kansas City will likely sign former Pro Bowl veteran wideout Tyreek Hill, but Smith is considered the “spooky” trade candidate this season.

After spending his entire career in Philadelphia, the wideout solidified himself as the franchise’s core offensive piece, finishing with 77 receptions for 1,008 yards and four touchdowns last year. The Eagles prioritized him over AJ Brown, who was traded to the New England Patriots this past summer and is under contract through the 2028 season. However, things could change if the Eagles drop their three games, especially after it was announced that QB Jalen Hurts would be out indefinitely for the remainder of the 2026 season.

The veteran QB is expected to make a full-recovery. Unfortunately, after finding multiple blood clots in his lungs, there aren’t any guarantees he’ll be ready for Week One of the 2027 campaign.

Trade Timeline Revealed

Even if the Eagles won’t trade the superstar pass-catcher this season, they could in the 2027 offseason. Smith signed a three-year, $75 million extension in 2024, but will have two seasons left on the contract. If Hurts isn’t ready to go next season, the Eagles could be forced to trade for an experienced QB or tank.

This year, the Eagles are still 2-4 and already have RB Saquon Barkley, CB Riq Woolen and Goedert as trade candidates. Fortunately for Philadelphia, the superstar pass-catcher isn’t going anywhere, but could they listen if they hear a deal they can’t turn down?

Chiefs’ Aggression

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs have wide receiver trade target options if they don’t sign Hill. Multiple names, including Brian Thomas Jr., Jerry Jeudy and superstar Garrett Wilson, could be targeted at the deadline. However, acquiring Smith is still an attractive option for Kansas City, but they’d need to give up at least two first-round picks and a premium player.

Realistically, it could be done, especially with TE Travis Kelce expected to retire next offseason. The Chiefs could trade TE Noah Gray and CB Kristian Fulton, who’s already been named as a possible chip.

Either way, the Eagles superstar could be available at some point in his career if Hurts’ injury is deemed career-ending. There could be three dream landing spots for the wideout if Hurts is forced to walk away from the game forever.

Future Potential Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

The 0-6 Los Angeles Chargers are looking for a change, with their offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel and head coach Jim Harbaugh likely to be fired. The Chargers have failed to position QB Justin Herbert as a top-five quarterback, drafting WR Brenen Thompson and refusing to trade for a superstar wide receiver. With Ladd McConkey battling injuries, the Chargers have enough cap space to trade for Smith this upcoming offseason.

Realistically, they could offer Quentin Johnston and two first-round picks. It could put Herbert back in the driver’s seat of postseason contention in 2028.

Indianapolis Colts

The 2-4 Indianapolis Colts are in the same boat, but could still appear in the upcoming postseason. Unfortunately, Alec Pierce won’t be back for a few more weeks, and Josh Downs and Jonathan Taylor are named trade candidates. If the Colts drop their next three games, it’s time to rebuild veteran QB Daniel Jones’ pass-offense. Pierce may take a paycut, but Indianapolis should be a team to watch to make a splash this upcoming offseason, especially after firing former GM Chris Ballard.

Acquiring Smith may change things offensively if they can keep Taylor.

Carolina Panthers

Fortunately, the Carolina Panthers have plenty of trade candidates to attract Philadelphia. Former first-round pick Xavier Legette remains a trade candidate heading into next month’s deadline. With Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker as QB Bryce Young’s future pass-catchers, adding Smith may skyrocket the Panthers’ Super Bowl odds.

For the past two offseasons, Carolina has rebuilt on both sides of the ball, and adding the Eagles superstar might be what gets Carolina back in the Super Bowl since the Cam Newton era.
