Hornets fans optimistic for new season, hoping for playoff basketball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The Charlotte Hornets are flying into another NBA season as the team [hosted its first game inside the Spectrum Center on Friday](https://www.wbtv.com/2026/10/24/hornets-blown-out-by-hawks-128-81-first-game-home-without-lamelo-ball-booed-by-sellout-crowd/).

Charlotte lost in a blowout to the Atlanta Hawks and will face the Miami Heat on Saturday, Oct. 24 in their second home game of the season.

Being back at the Spectrum Center was a thrill for fans who had witnessed a historic 44 win season months ago.

“Today’s the day. We’re pumped up and couldn’t wait for this first home game,” said fan Mark Cierzan.

Coming off a NBA Play-In Tournament Appearance last season, fans are optimistic about Head Coach Charles Lee’s leadership and the chance the Hornets make a deeper postseason run.

“Higher heights. I need for them to gel, get to know each other and form relationships so they can take us to the next level,” said Beverly Dulin-Massey, a Hornets Season Ticket Holder. “I can see where (Lee) is going. I know we have to lose some players to get some players.”

The Hornets moved on from star players LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges in the offseason, but brought in several experienced players who could work well alongside a handful of young stars like Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel.

“This year I think personally is a rebuilding year for the Hornets. They are one or two players away from going all the way. Every year they build and get better,” said Cierzan.
