Liverpool have had conversations with Felix Nmecha’s representatives, according to reports.

Sky Sport Deutschland claim that the Reds have “recently been” in touch with the “entourage” of the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

Nmecha is said to be on the club’s shortlist of options ahead of the January transfer window, but he is not believed to be the top priority.

Sky believe that Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott are deemed more likely targets in the New Year.

Nmecha would be expensive

One of the factors that may deter Liverpool from making an offer for the former Manchester City player is his asking price.

Nmecha reportedly has a release clause of around €80m (£67m) which can be activated next summer, but if an approach is made in January, Dortmund would ask for more than that, with his valuation set at around €100m (£84m).

The German international would probably still be cheaper than Scott, with Bournemouth thought to be holding out for £100m, but Camara will be on the market for considerably less.

Chelsea agreed to sign the Senegalese international for €55m (£46m) before the transfer collapsed on Deadline Day last month.

Liverpool want to sign a midfielder

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has said that “midfield is an area Liverpool want to address in 2027” although it is still not entirely clear if a move will be made in January or at the end of the campaign.

The Reds usually do most of their business in the summer, but they are known to be flexible if the right opportunity comes along. Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz were all snapped up midway through the season.
