Tatum offered a lengthy response as he directly addressed Brown’s cryptic “cap” emoji comment on a video in which he reacted to his former Celtics co-star’s exit from Boston.
"I understand being in the entertainment business. Me personally, I'm not much of an off-the-court entertainer type of guy. And for me, I don't have any animosity for beef or ill will towards him, right? And I think the frustrating part is, since he's not on the, you know, with the Celtics anymore, the narrative or the conversations haven't been enough about what we accomplished, how the games we won, winning the championship, how we've grown together, right? And it's turned into this drama type of thing," Tatum said. "And it's not really like I got two kids, you know what I'm saying?
"I reached out to him the day he got traded. I called him, I texted him, and I understand people process things differently. So for me, at this point in our lives, to what would be having our relationship discussed X, Y, and Z on the internet, right? If there's a conversation to be had, we can definitely have that conversation. I welcome that, right? I've always wanted the best for him and wish the best for him. I've always publicly said those things."
Jaylen Brown calls "cap" on Jayson Tatum Celtics trade reaction
Jaylen Brown went viral after dropping a "cap" emoji in an Instagram reel that showed Jayson Tatum's reaction to his shocking Boston Celtics trade.
In Episode 3 of Summer of Jayson, titled “The Sit Down,” on his YouTube channel, Tatum opened up about his thoughts on the Celtics' decision to trade Brown. Tatum revealed that he was in Las Vegas when the trade happened and made it clear that he was just as shocked as everyone else.
But Brown drew intrigue across the league with his comment on the video. In modern slang, "cap" means to lie or exaggerate, which only shows that he isn't buying the narrative given by Tatum.
Tatum further denied having a heated dynamic with Brown similar to the infamous Shaquille O'Neal-Kobe Bryant feud.
"This ain’t no fu***** Shaq and Kobe,” he told reporters.
"I don't want that to be in the rearview mirror of what's being talked about…like how many people played in this league and never went to the Finals? We went twice and won a championship. So it should be more about that."
