Fenway Sports Group have been in charge of Liverpool since 2010, overseeing a period that has brought major success on the pitch and significant changes behind the scenes.
The American owners took over at Anfield when the club was facing serious financial problems, with their arrival helping to ease the debt left by previous owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
Since then, Liverpool have won the Premier League twice and the Champions League, while Anfield has undergone major redevelopment.
FSG have also continued to invest in the club’s infrastructure, with the AXA Training Centre among the changes made during their time in charge.
However, their sporting interests extend well beyond football, with the group also involved in other major teams across the world.
And now, a new report has revealed that FSG have rejected an offer to sell one of their other sporting investments.
According to Sports Business Journal, NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski made an offer to buy RFK Racing in its entirety, but the bid was rejected by the team’s other owners.
For those unfamiliar with NASCAR, it is one of America’s biggest motorsports competitions, with teams racing specially built stock cars across a season of events.
RFK Racing is jointly owned by Keselowski, motorsport veteran Jack Roush and FSG, with the team’s name reflecting its ownership history.
Keselowski, who is both a driver and co-owner, confirmed that his offer had been turned down in the last week.
“I would say yes there is truth that I made an unsolicited bid to buy RFK Racing; that was denied in the last week,” he told Sports Business Journal.
He also described the proposal as a “pretty solid and significant offer”, although the exact figure involved has not been revealed.
The news comes after Keselowski announced last month that he would leave RFK Racing at the end of the season, despite holding an ownership stake in the team.
The disagreement reportedly centred on how long he wanted to continue racing before moving into a full-time competition role.
Keselowski has not revealed what his next move will be, and for now FSG and Roush remain in control of RFK Racing.
