Liverpool Believe Deal Is Now ‘A Matter Of ‘When’ Not ‘If” As They See Off Interest From Arsenal, Bayern And Other Clubs

Liverpool are confident that Rio Ngumoha will sign a new contract, heading off interest from other teams, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claim that it may be only a matter of time before the 18-year-old signs on the dotted line, with the teenager keen on staying at Anfield:

“Sources close to the player have told us he loves the club and wants to commit his long-term future. It would seem a matter of ‘when ‘, not ‘if ‘, despite interest from Arsenal, Bayern Munich and other European clubs.”

As things stand, Ngumoha’s current deal with the Reds expires at the end of next season. The Merseysiders are hoping to tie him down to a five-year extension.

Ngumoha has looked sharp in recent games

The teenager has put in some eye-catching displays over the past 7 days, making a big impact after coming on as a substitute against Brentford, before starring in the Reds’ 4-3 victory over Villarreal midweek.

Ngumoha got himself two assists in the latter game, setting up Ronald Araujo for the equaliser before crossing to Alex Mac Allister, who made it 3-2 on the night.

What has the player said about his Liverpool future?

Speaking last weekend after the comeback win over Brentford, Ngumoha said he is happy to stay with the Reds:

“It’s all with my agent now. I think it is all going well. I am not too sure. I just let the football do the talking; I enjoy playing, and all of that is in the back of my mind. I just play for Liverpool, and hopefully I can carry on doing well.”

Head coach Andoni Iraola will be particularly delighted if Ngumoha puts pen to paper, having recently waxed lyrical about his ability despite still only being 18.
