Video footage of the incident went viral after TMZ posted it to X, resulting in 9.6 million views as of press time.
Page Six first reported on McHenry's resignation, citing "a source familiar with the situation."
Her swift departure comes on the heels of White House press secretary Katie Zacharia's termination after a week. But McHenry beat her record, lasting barely a day.
She was promoted to a role handling "External Affairs & Press" on Wednesday, the outlet added.
