Eric Chelle keeping tabs on Liverpool central defenders ahead of U23 Afcon qualifiers
Olympic Eagles coach Eric Chelle is reportedly keeping tabs on two Liverpool central defenders ahead of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
According to Score Nigeria, Liverpool academy players Wellity Lucky and Noah Adekoya are on the radar of the Malian tactician for a possible call-up to the Olympic Eagles.
Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported two years ago that Adekoya and Chibuzo Nwoko were willing to represent Nigeria if approached by the Nigeria Football Federation.
While Nwoko made his debut for Nigeria in their most recent friendly against Russia, Adekoya is yet to earn an international cap.
Adekoya joined Liverpool from Burnley in January 2026 and has scored one goal in four appearances for the Anfield club in Premier League 2.
Zaragoza-born Lucky is eligible to represent the Olympic Eagles through his parents.
He also qualifies to play for Spain and England, having lived in England for more than five years.
Lucky has represented England at U15 and U16 levels and has also been invited to a Spain U17 training camp.
The tri-national defender is regarded as a player with the potential to break into Liverpool's first team.
He has been named in seven matchday squads and made his senior debut in a Carabao Cup fixture against Crystal Palace in October 2025.
Nigeria's Olympic Eagles are scheduled to face the Democratic Republic of Congo in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in November 2026.
